Get Ready for the Summer Kickoff Party

Neighbors:  Are you ready for a party? Please join us for a luau-themed afternoon. The summer kickoff event will be at the pool house Saturday, June 5th

Morning:

  • The Rooster Food Truck will be here at 9:30 doing breakfast tacos.  See below for more detail on The Rooster.
  • The pool will open at 10am.

 Afternoon:

  • From 12:00 – 3:00, we will have yard games for our enjoyment and a cool DJ playing “summer” hits.
  • At 1:00,  we will have a short hula lesson taught by a local Polynesian dance instructor. We hope all ages will come learn to hula with us and dance into summer!

We’ll have 2 NEW great food trucks there too!

1. The Rooster-Their delicious menu is sure to please everyone.  They offer 5 tacos for $10 and you can “mix and match” them.  The kind creative owners will join us at 9:30AM and start out with breakfast tacos. (Brand new for Village Creek!)  Breakfast tacos are served with the choice of potato, chorizo, bacon, ham, mexicana (pico de gallo), vegan, or beans.  (All include cheese)  Also, revolcado breakfast tacos-two tacos with green salsa on top, with your choice of toppings.

Lunch menu:

The most exciting thing about this truck is that they are very flexible and want to accommodate their customers.  So you can be creative with their menus!  You can ask the chef for ideas if you would prefer something not listed.  You can visit their Facebook page and send them a message if you’d like.  https://www.facebook.com/theroosterhouston

2. Tikiz Truck – This cool, exciting truck will join us too.  They’re “The Shaved Ice & Ice Cream Truck of the Future” Lots of fun and delicious treats.  Their Facebook page tells us to “Listen for the Steel Drum Music!”  They have ice cream, shaved ice, Hawaiian Coffee and other dreamy-sounding hot beverages and Flotz, one of which is called a “Purple Cow”!  Sounds like fun; we’re intrigued! You can visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TikizNHouston.

Adult Residents:  We will have a special adult-focused surprise!  In keeping with the Luau theme, there will be a brief hula exhibit and a short hula lesson, so we hope all “you big kids” will join us.

Spring is here! Join the party!

Spring is here!  Let’s all celebrate at the “Spring Fling” here in Village Creek on Saturday, April 3rd from 1:00-4:00.  If you liked the End of Year Party in December, we think you’ll love this party!

This event is not just for kids.  We’ll have a rocking DJ playing tunes, games, corn hole competitions, as well as the bunny here for the kiddos, egg hunts,  a rock-climbing wall for the older ones and a choo-choo train for the little ones.  And, what would a spring celebration be without decorated bonnets? There will be an adult and child bonnet decoration contest.  Plus, we’ll have two food trucks there if you want a snack.  See all the details below:

Egg Hunt  Starting at 1:20, we’ll have 4 egg hunts, divided by age groups.
Blue Choo-Choo Train for the younger kiddos: A short little ride for toddlers from 1-3.
Rock Climbing Wall for the older kids; from 2-4.

Easter Bunny sitting in his big polka dot chair ready to have his picture taken with residents.

Hula Hoop Contest:  Longest time wins!
3 Legged Race  Get a buddy and try for the fastest time.  Recommended for older people.
Potato Sack Race  Remember these?  You climb into a burlap sack and jump as fast as you can toward the finish line.
Egg and Spoon Race How fast can you run balancing an egg on a spoon?
Cup Stacking  Ten cups get stacked in a pyramid; fastest one wins the prize.
Corn Hole  May be a great escape for the older kids and adults.

We are looking forward to having fun with all our neighbors.  See you there!

Graduating Senior Edition of The Voice

We will be having a special edition of The Voice to celebrate our 2021 graduating seniors in May.  To have your son or daughter included, submit a digital photo and a brief message by April 1, 2021. Not sure what to write?  Ideas could include a congratulatory message from parents and siblings, mentions of his or her accomplishments, and plans for the future. The ideal length is approximately 50-75 words. Since the May newsletter goes to press the first week in April, submissions are welcome any time before April 1, 2021 to vcmedia@villagecreek.us.

Love Your Neighbor(hood) Event

Valentine’s Day is coming! Maybe you remember the excitement you felt as a child during Valentine season.  The surprise little bags of goodies. Counting and recounting the cards you received from friends after the school party. All of these may be fond memories for you.  What if we recreated that feeling in our neighborhood?

The idea is that we can do something special for one another this weekend.  You can be anonymous as you surprise others, or not.  The children may wish to participate too.

Here are a few ideas we thought of that may appeal to you to spread the caring and cheer of this time:

-Leave a plate of baked goods at a friend’s or neighbor’s door

-Make a little basket of handy items-pens, pads, etc.

-Place a small flower or plant at the door

-Have the kids make valentines and put them on the doors of neighbors

-Leave a “cup of cheer” at the front door

-Or ?

Please join us in spreading the love, cheer and good feelings and sharing them in Village Creek.

Holiday Lights Judging Results 2020

2020’s Lighting Contest Results Are In.

The Social Committee wants to thank everyone who did such a fantastic job decorating their homes and beautifying the neighborhood.  You all made this challenge of naming the “winners” a very difficult one. We like to put “winners” in quotes because we don’t think there were any “losers” this year.  We spent hours viewing and reviewing Village Creek and more hours discussing and debating the special merits of each home.

The creativity shown in so many displays has prompted us to think about enhancing next year’s categories to include a separate one for animation.  We were also awed by a few of the streets that adopted a theme and created a true winter wonderland – Ligustrum Trail, Magic Falls, Days Dawn, Empress Cove, Placid Trail,  and Wandering Springs.

Now, to the “winners”:

Best Overall – 17423 Sunset Arbor Dr.

Most Festive – 12523 Midland Creek Dr.

Most Traditional – 17319 Eagle Ledge Dr.

Door Decoration– 17202 Leeside Dr.

Kids’ Choice – 17302 Lyric Way Dr.

Honorable mention:

1) 17123 Cobble Shores Dr.

2) 12702 Wandering Stream Dr.

3) 17623 Empress Cove Ln.

There were so many fantastic homes showing such fun, creativity and excitement that we had to make a new category we named “Displays of Special Note” So, here’s to all residents who truly went the extra mile to add to the beauty of Village Creek and shine some hope and light to the world: 12811 Mimosa Springs, 12606 Ligustrum Trail Ct, 12714 Songhollow Ct, 12703 Sienna Trails, 12806 Sienna Trails, 17206 Cobble Shores Dr, 12827 Mossy Ledge Dr, 12715 Mossy Ledge Dr, 17818 Scarlet Forest Dr, 12803 Mossy Ledge Dr, 17331 Village Breeze Dr, 17415 Sweet Song Dr, 12818 Wandering Streams Dr, 12710 Wandering Streams Dr, 12827 Wandering Streams Dr, 17327 Holsberry Ct, and 12423 Morning Rain Dr plus the door decorations at 17326 Village Breeze Dr, and 12431 Morning Rain Dr.

We want to thank our board officers for their support with this project and our junior residents of the Fleming, King, and Piowaty families who voted for their favorites in the Kids’ Choice category!

Toys for Tots donations: You can donate a toy for less fortunate children to this Marine-sponsored project. The item must be new, unwrapped and in the original packaging.  (No guns, liquids, or food items will be accepted.) The Marines will take it from there to sort and deliver them in surrounding areas.
